Little League Age 13
13 is where the game really starts to speed up — 13U (Intermediate) steps onto a bigger 70ft-base, 50ft-pitching diamond, closer to full adult size, with metal cleats and headfirst sliding both allowed for the first time.
New to the game?
13U is where new players at this age should start.
More experienced?
Players ready for a bigger step can also play 14U. 13U plays in the morning and 14U in the afternoon, so it’s genuinely possible to play both on the same Saturday without a scheduling clash. Both grades run up to 2.5 hours.
Playing up a year
Female players may also choose to play 12U instead, at their own preference.
The All-Stars pathway
At Little League age 13, players are eligible to trial for the 13U (Intermediate) All-Stars. The pathway runs through three stages: win the New Zealand District to become New Zealand Little League, win the Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional to become Asia-Pacific Little League, then head to the Little League World Series itself in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Regional has been hosted in Taipei, Chinese Taipei for the past two years, and in Japan before that.
