Pitch Count Rules
Thursday, 05 November 2009 15:26
There has been some discussion and mis-interpretation over the pitch count rules.
As Little League rule books are still scarce please use this in conjunction with the ABA rules for clarity when dealing with Double Headers and Mid Week Games.
In all grades League age 16 and under if a player pitches 40 pitches or less in the first game they are able to pitch in the second game up to their daily limit.
-
For U11 (Minors) the daily limit is 75 pitches
-
For U13 (Majors) the daily limit is 85 pitches
-
For U15 (Juniors) the daily limit is 95 pitches
-
For U17 (Seniors) the daily limit is 95 pitches
If a pitcher pitches more than 61 pitches in a day then 3 days rest are required. The impact of this would be applicable during midweek games where they would no longer be able to pitch on the Saturday. 41 to 60 pitches in a day requires 2 days rest.
It is a team Coaches responsibility to monitor the pitch count in conjunction with the scorers who will have available a pitch count sheet to record pitching. This should also be signed by the umpire at the conclusion of a game and will become the official record for pitcher availability in following games.
Also see the ABA Rule book - this describes local rules and conditions, and works in conjunction with the official Little League rule book
